Head of Risk and Compliance

Job Introduction

The Head of Risk and Compliance is responsible for driving the Company’s Compliance and Risk Program throughout the Bupa Global Latin America organization.

Role Responsibility

  • Develops implements, maintains and regularly reviews the Company’s Risk and Compliance Program to ensure employees are compliant with applicable law, best practices, are knowledgeable of the Company’s mission, vision and values, creating visibility of the Company’s core Ethics value within the organization.
  • Manages, along with the local business unit manager, the day to day relationship with applicable regulators, managing the good standing relationship between the two and ensuring the Company timely responds to all regulatory inquiries.
  • Trains all Company employees on the Company’s Risk and Compliance Program and its Mission, Vision and Values in conjunction with the Human Resources Induction Program. 
  • Enforces the Company’s Risk and Compliance Program to ensure that employees are living up to the Company’s Code of Conduct.
  • Regularly reports, in summary fashion, Risk and Compliance issues and enhancements to the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors and Executive leadership.
  • Works as Team Leader for Risk and Compliance, managing work load between team members.
  • Provides leadership and support to local, subsidiary Latin America Risk and Compliance Managers.
  • Assists in the management of individual risk and regulatory issues as they may arise in local subsidiary markets.

The Ideal Candidate

  • 3 years experience or knowledge in insurance, risk, regulatory, and compliance.
  • Degree in; law, insurance/FS or other risk or compliance related area – ideally experience in the Latin American arena.
  • Good knowledge of risk management frameworks and techniques.
  • Prior experience developing and rolling out training for employees on risk and compliance matters such as operational risk, privacy, data protection, third party licensing agreements, anti-fraud, conflicts of interest, anti-money laundering laws, OFAC, FCPA & UK Bribery Act, Conduct etc.
  • English speaking and preferably also Spanish (Portuguese is also desirable).
  • Ability to lead and work well within a team with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritizing, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Exceptional rapport, and relationship building; as well as excellent influencing, and interpersonal skills, particularly with Company directors, managers and regulators.
  • Self-starter who desires to show ownership and commitment to the job and who can work effectively across departments 
  • Position shall be flexible to encompass other duties within the candidate's skill set to support the needs of the Company
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully interact with senior management, staff, operations, sales and business unit leaders.
  • Ability to understand cultural sensitivities.
